Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

The Registered Nurse will function under the direction of Manager of Patient Care and maintain responsibility for daily nursing activities.

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

  • Provides care for clients under established protocol or under the direction and/or supervision of a physician. Coordinates care with the individual client, family and other health care providers as necessary. Assists the physician during procedures and monitors the client.
  • Administers medications, performs diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Completes an in-depth history and nursing assessment relative to individual needs.
  • Provides appropriate teaching for clients and their families based on medical/nursing diagnosis and nursing assessment to enhance health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Documents care, maintains an appropriate and accurate written record of interaction, including chief complaint, symptoms, plan and action.
  • Schedules appropriate lab/diagnostic procedures and provides related teaching. Assists with follow up on abnormal laboratory and diagnostic test results.
  • Provides emotional support and professional guidance to the client and family.
  • Performs phone triage.
  • Interacts with pharmacists to renew prescriptions and to place orders for newly prescribed drugs.
  • Assumes preceptor role for new Caregivers and/or students in conjunction with Practice Supervisor or Clinical Coordinator
  • Maintains professional and practice standards by participating in in-service meetings and other educational opportunities including committee involvement.
  • Maintains a safe working environment

Job Requirements

General Requirements • Current State of Michigan Board of Nursing license. • AHA BLS within 60 days of hire. Work Experience • Minimum 1 year of cardiovascular experience or 2 years nursing experience • Previous experience in an ambulatory setting preferred. • Previous experience in ICU, ER, cardiac cath lab, cardiac step-down preferred. Education • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans. • Demonstrates ability to function in a team environment, including excellent written and verbal communication skills to efficiently and appropriately communicate with patients, families, providers, and co-workers. • Provides care for patients that is age-specific/appropriate to meet their physical and safety needs, psychosocial concerns, and educational level. • EKG knowledge. • Basic heart arrhythmia and cardiac medication knowledge. • Requires visual and auditory acuity necessary to monitor patients condition and operate office equipment. • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
