Position Summary:

This position is primarily an undergraduate academic counselor and liaison for graduate programs and events in the Office of Academic and Student Affairs (OASA), Samueli School of Engineering. Under the direct supervision of Student Services Supervisor 2 and Director of OASA work with administration, students, staff, faculty, and campus partners in interpreting and implementing School and University policies with decision-making authority. Lead academic counselor for the computer engineering major and the data science engineering minor and support advisor for the computer science, computer science and engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, and undeclared engineering majors, and the bioinformatics minor. Advise students on university and school enrollment policies and procedures, degree requirements, course scheduling, academic standing, and campus resources. As lead counselor review quarterly proposed course offerings; paying special attention to scheduling conflicts, enrollment capacities, and omissions that may impact student time to degree working with the lead Computer Science and Electrical Engineering advisors. Consult with the computer engineering vice chair and the data science vice chair/s on course exceptions, major and minor policies, and complex curricular issues. As the graduate liaison the graduate exit surveys, housing allocations, and the coordination of school-wide Graduate Open House and the Graduate Student Orientation & Welcome events working closely with the school's seven graduate departments and two special programs. Assists to review and determine student eligibility for the exceptional student admissions program (esap). Support the summer session and transfer course equivalency review process in collaboration with the lead Course Evaluations student services advisor. Assist the engineering admissions team with the transfer admissions process and occasional admissions outreach and information events. Maintain relevant academic database and produce statistical and analytical reports on topics assigned by the Associate Dean, OASA Director, and academic departments. Assist with all OASA events. Occasional evening hours or weekend hours in order to represent the Office of Academic and Student Affairs at informational sessions, outreach events, Discover UCLA Engineering, Bruin Day, Transfer Bruin Day, and the Samueli Engineering Commencement ceremonies.

Salary & Compensation: *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.   • Working knowledge of University and School rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to student affairs and curricula requirements. (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of the Registrar's Office and student services such as Career Center, The Center for Accessible Education, Counseling and Psychological Services, Dashew Center and Financial Aid. (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with University on-line systems and procedures, SIS (student information systems) SRS (student records systems), Course Inventory Management System (CIMS CMS), MyUCLA, DARS, Assist, Transferology. (Preferred)
  • Ability to interpret transcripts and manually calculate GPAs and units when necessary, with attention to detail. (Required)
  • Computer and database skills necessary to maintain, troubleshoot and encode student databases, process electronic degree audit notices and generate reports and presentations, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Wordpress, and some UNIX language. (Required)
  • Time management and organizational skills in working independently and following through on assignments and meeting deadlines. (Required)
  • Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions, set priorities and work independently with minimal direction, think strategically, work in demanding situations. (Required)
  • Skill in employing fundamental counseling techniques. (Required)
  • Communication, interpersonal skills and political acumen to interact with a diverse population. (Required)
  • Ability to make oral presentations to student groups and college/university staff. (Required)
  • Skill in writing grammatically correct reports and correspondence. (Required)
  • Supervisory skills to train, delegate and monitor work assignments of student clerks. (Preferred)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent combination of education and experience/training (Required)
