QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience: 3+ years of purchasing experience strictly within steel fabrication, industrial manufacturing, or structural steel distribution.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in reading fabrication blueprints and navigating ERP/MRP platforms (e.g., Tekla EPM, Tekla PowerFab, Epicor, JobBOSS).
    • Experience with CNC drill lines, robotic plasma and other automated equipment is a plus
  • Inventory Control: Proven experience managing multi-category inventory (raw material vs. high-turn consumables).
  • Logistics: Familiarity with local flatbed freight, freight-on-board (FOB) terms, and material test report (MTR) tracking.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Raw Material Procurement: Source structural steel, plates, pipes, and tubes from regional service centers and mills.
  • MRO & Consumables Management: Establish Min/Max levels and VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) systems for welding wire, gases, hardware, grinding wheels, and safety gear.
  • Material Nesting Coordination: Partner with detailing and production teams to review Bills of Materials (BOMs) and maximize materials for minimum waste and cost
  • ERP Maintenance: Execute purchase orders, track vendor lead times, and update pricing models inside our ERP system (TEKLA PROFAB)
  • Supplier Development: Audit regional suppliers annually on quality, on-time delivery, and competitive pricing.
  • Organize and set up logistics and trucking for deliveries, jobsite tool deliveries, etc...
  • Coordinate EPA and DOT, inspections and paperwork required for shop operations
