Announcement Information

Job Summary The Center for Learning Education and Research in the Sciences (CLEAR) seeks an Oberlin College graduate (Class of 2021-2026) for a full-time 10-month Administrative and Professional Staff position as STEM Fellow. This non-continuing role renewable for up to one year after successful completion of first year will begin between July 1 and August 15, 2026, and reports to the Director of Inclusive Excellence in Undergraduate Research and STEM Education.

The STEM Fellow supports inclusive STEM education at Oberlin by coordinating mentoring programs, student leadership teams, community-building events, and day-to-day operations of CLEAR. This 40-hour/week role is located on-site and includes occasional evenings and weekends. Working hours are typically Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Responsibilities

Mentor Program Coordination

  • Assist with communication, training, orientation, and professional development for CLEAR mentors (OWLS, HOOTs, QUAILs).
  • Support logistics: room bookings, food orders, material uploads, payment processing, and attendance tracking.
  • Collaborate on mentor curriculum and maintain CLEAR Wiki and training records.

Program and Event Support

  • Co-develop and lead STEM community programming in partnership with campus offices (e.g., MRC Peer Tutoring, OUR, ODA).
  • Support signature programs such as Lab Crawl, BRANCHES & Boba, and the Anti-Procrastination Station while exploring new initiatives.
  • Co-develop and support CLEAR professional development programming including Orientation and Parliamentary sessions.

Student Supervision and Leadership Development

  • Co-supervise CLEAR student coordinators with the Director and the BRANCHES leadership team alongside the OUR STEM Program Coordinator under supervision of the Director.
  • Mentor student leaders and assist with community-building efforts.

Administrative and Research Support

  • Participate in data collection and analysis including tracking data related to attendance and program outcomes.
  • Create report on CLEAR activities and outcomes.
  • Option to pursue a small research or curricular project in collaboration with the Director.
  • Continue to improve operational systems and documentation.

K100 Space and Community Engagement

  • Maintain and organize CLEARs space in the Science Center K100 including caring for plants, ordering supplies, keeping the room tidy, and general upkeep.
  • Monitor space use and address basic operational needs as they arise.
  • Water and care for plants in K100 and associated program spaces.
  • Restock water and other supplies in K100 as needed.
  • Open space and be on site for K100 open hours. Ensure space is securely locked at the end of the day.
  • Foster a welcoming environment and support visitors and deliveries.
  • Promote and track space usage in collaboration with the Director.
  • Solicit event information, draft, publish, and send the CLEAR Newsletter.
  • Maintain 3D printers (prior knowledge is not required).
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and research skills
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, proactive, and collaborative
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Highly skilled in Google Sheets
  • Flexibility for occasional evening/weekend work
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion in STEM

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a peer mentor or student leader (e.g., OWLS, HOOTs, QUAILs, TA roles)
  • Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle
