Position: STEM Internship Status: Part-time; FLSA Hourly Non-Exempt Department: Conservation Learning Reports to: Senior Manager, School Programs and Community Engagement POSITION OVERVIEW Located along the Space Coast in Melbourne, Florida, Brevard Zoo is an AZA-accredited facility with a diverse collection of over 900 animals representing nearly 200 species. It is also home to the Sea Turtle Healing Center for rehabilitation of wild marine turtles. Brevard Zoo is well-known for its strong conservation ethic and unique attractions, such as kayaking through the Africa area, giraffe feeding, and rhinoceros and various other animal encounters. Assist learning staff with teaching students during Lagoon Quest, Be Outside with Brevard Zoo and STEM at school programming. These programs are joint programs with Brevard County Public Schools. Lagoon Quest Zoo staff conducts an environmental education program at a local park along the Indian River Lagoon to 4th grade students. Be Outside with Brevard Zoo is a combination of experiences including hikes at local parks, lagoon experiences at local parks and wetlands kayaking at the Zoo for middle and high school students. STEM programs at the schools focus on science standards and conservation projects for middle and high school students. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (M) Medium Work Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects as needed. POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: Must be willing to work in inclement weather including temperatures exceeding 90 degrees and high humidity. Frequent movement outdoors with some indoor office environment. Exposure to extreme heat and weather conditions. Requires Sitting, Standing, Walking, Bending, Stooping, Kneeling, Finger Dexterity, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity frequently. WORK SCHEDULE: If available, may have opportunities to work Fridays or Saturdays as necessary. TRAVEL: Position requires the routine and frequent use of a Zoo vehicle to travel to offsite programs.
