    POSITION: 1.0 STEM Teacher (6-8) REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1) Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate 2) Endorsement(s) DX/DQ, EX/EQ and or NP Grade Level 6-8

    POSITION DESCRIPTION: The selected candidate will be responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. This person will also be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with SPS policies, goals and objectives.

    The STEM Teacher will develop and facilitate interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while strengthening scholars' problem-solving, critical- thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. The ideal candidate will understand the needs of academically advanced learners and be able to provide appropriate enrichment and differentiation while supporting scholars who require additional academic assistance.

    As part of the University K-12 Academy community, the STEM Teacher will contribute to a culture of high academic expectations, teamwork, accountability, leadership, and preparation for success in high school, college, and future careers.

    QUALIFICATIONS Required/Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics,
    • Computer Science, or a related field.
    • Valid Michigan teaching certification with an endorsement in science (DX/DQ), technology (NP), and/or mathematics (EX/EQ).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of middle school instructional practices and adolescent development.
    • Strong understanding of STEM education and interdisciplinary instruction.
    • Ability to design rigorous, engaging, project-based learning experiences.
    • Ability to differentiate instruction for academically advanced scholars as well as students requiring additional support.
    • Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to effectively integrate instructional technology into teaching and learning.
    • Commitment to maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations for all scholars. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Curriculum & Hands-On Instruction: Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned 6-8 STEM instruction, integrating project-based learning, coding, robotics, and the engineering design process into interactive, non-lecture lessons.
    • Differentiation & Data: Utilize student data to tailor instruction, support the MTSS process, and provide appropriate accommodations or extensions for IEPs, 504 plans, and advanced learners.
    • Safety & Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful environment, explicitly teaching procedures for handling STEM equipment, tools, and digital technology.
    • Assessment & Record Keeping: Track scholar growth via formative/summative performance tasks and maintain timely grading per school guidelines.
    • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Engage in PLCs and partner with core content teachers to build real-world, career-connected learning projects.
