Position Details

Portland Public Schools: STEM Teacher, Portland Middle School

Portland Public Schools is seeking an innovative and passionate STEM Teacher to join the team at Portland Middle School. We are looking for an educator who inspires curiosity, encourages problem-solving, and creates engaging learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Our district is collaborative and committed to supporting staff growth, instructional innovation, and positive outcomes for every student.

This position is preferred as a full-time assignment; however, part-time assignments of 0.5 FTE or greater may be considered based on candidate preference.

The desired candidate would possess the following attributes:

• Exceptional communication, analysis, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Understanding of, or demonstrated training in, PBIS and MTSS initiatives
• Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor
• Impeccable character, a good sense of humor, and compassion for students, families, and staff
• Ability to integrate technology into teaching and learning practices
• Experience in working with special needs students
• Willingness to undertake extra-curricular assignments

Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree or higher
• A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement for grades 6-8. A Mathematics (EX) endorsement is preferred.
• Strong base in the subject area content, common core standards
• Ability to use assessments and student data to drive meaningful instruction
• Ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and district colleagues
• Demonstrated ability to sustain and improve student achievement outcomes
• Willingness to contribute to a safe school climate of high expectations and strong collaboration, high staff and student morale, and positive community involvement

Position Details:

• Reports to: Building Principal
• Calendar: As per District Calendar and PEA contract
• Compensation: In accordance with PEA contract
