Assembles properly inspected, processed surgical instruments, carts, and equipment according to kit lists to meet the demands of quality patient care. Ensures all items are cleaned, sterilized, and stored in accordance with established policies and manufacturer guidelines.

I. Major Responsibilities • Clean, package, sterilize, and store instruments and kits per policy. • Maintain accurate documentation of sterilized equipment and biological testing. • Check and restock par level and code carts; monitor for outdated supplies. • Receive, store, and distribute supplies; coordinate equipment checks with Biomedical. • Document equipment loss, repairs, and requisitions; order specialty beds as needed. • Process items requiring steam, Steris, or Sterrad sterilization.

II. Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education: • Required: High School diploma or equivalent. • Completion of, or enrollment in an accredited Central Sterile Processing Technician program. • Certification is required within one year of employment. Failure to obtain certification within one year will result in termination from this position. • Preferred: Central Sterile Processing Technician Certification.

Experience/Skills: • Required: An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. • Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
