Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to read and legibly write, communicate appropriately and effectively, understand and execute instructions as needed and visually distinguish color.

Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.

Function independently without constant supervision.

Ability to perform tasks of a sterile process technician efficiently.

Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

Knowledge of care and handling of surgical instruments. Knowledge and ability to execute the aseptic technique.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or LVN license in state of employment.

Certified in sterile processing preferred (CSPDT) or in surgical technology (CST or CORT).

One (1) year experience preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Working Conditions: Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation and repetitive motions; Category 1-Occupational exposure.

Physical Demands: Physically demanding, high stress environment. Full range of body motion including crouching, stooping, reaching, bending, twisting, handling and lifting patients.

Frequently lift, pull and push the weight of the average patient with assistance of one other person. Manual and finger dexterity; hand eye coordination; standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

Frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position. The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
