Local: $800 – $1,000/week
Traveler: $1,000 – $1,300/week

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to perform cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and reusable medical equipment, including operating room case cart preparation.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of Sterile Processing/Central Processing experience.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Completion of a Central Processing/Sterile Processing course or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Current CRCST or CBSPD/CBSPDT certification.

• Strong knowledge of surgical instrument processing and sterilization procedures.

• Experience with steam sterilization and familiarity with ETO, STERRAD, and STERIS systems.

• Knowledge of biological indicators, chemical indicators, Bowie-Dick testing, and sterilization monitoring.

• Ability to assemble surgical instrument sets and prepare operating room case carts.

• Knowledge of infection prevention, Universal Precautions, PPE, and safe handling of contaminated equipment.

• Ability to read and follow manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs).

• Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.

• Ability to communicate effectively with clinical and surgical teams.

• English proficiency required; ability to speak, read, and write English.

Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and reusable medical equipment.

• Follow department policies, infection-prevention standards, and manufacturer instructions for use.

• Operate and load steam, ETO, STERRAD, and STERIS sterilization systems.

• Perform and document biological and Bowie-Dick testing as required.

• Incubate, read, interpret, and record biological test results.

• Complete sterilization records and maintain accurate documentation for processed items.

• Apply appropriate sterilization labels and load identification information.

• Read and interpret chemical indicators and integrators for sterilization loads.

• Review and initial computerized sterilizer printouts.

• Use computerized instrument count sheets during assembly and processing.

• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, damage, and proper operation.

• Assemble surgical instrument sets according to procedures and physician preference cards.

• Prepare and organize operating room case carts with required instruments, supplies, medications, and special equipment.

• Deliver completed case carts to the appropriate operating room in a timely manner.

• Identify missing instruments or supplies and notify the appropriate OR or nursing team.

• Communicate equipment and supply shortages to the department coordinator.

• Complete required daily checklists and department documentation.

• Follow Universal Precautions, Standard Precautions, and PPE requirements.

• Properly handle contaminated instruments and equipment while maintaining infection-control standards.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sterile processing environment.

• Collaborate with operating room staff, nursing personnel, surgical teams, and Sterile Processing leadership.

• Perform additional duties within the scope of the position as assigned.
