Overview: Under direct supervision, following established standards and procedures perform routine duties necessary for the proper function of the Central Service department. General responsibilities include, but are not limited to, cleaning, wrapping, sterilization, storage and distribution of instruments and/or supplies utilized by the Procurement and Processing department.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in cleaning and decontamination of surgical instruments and/or equipment as directed. Unload Washer/Disinfector and transport equipment to Prep and Pack area.
Inspect, wrap, pouch and barcode items in accordance with proper procedures in preparation for sterilization.
Unload sterilizer carts and place equipment in proper locations.
Ability to identify various external sterilization indicators on equipment and supplies and ensure that the integrity has not been compromised.
Basic knowledge of Central Services sterilization processes and techniques.
Fulfill processing needs for equipment and supplies as called for, ensuring customer needs are met in a timely and efficient manner
Receive deliveries and place supplies in proper locations within Central Services as necessary. Maintain and fill solution carts as needed.
Stock and deliver case carts per processing schedule.
Maintaining inventory par levels for Central Services in order to properly supply Processing and Procurement department needs.
Participate in weekly, monthly, and event-based cleanings. Perform targeted deep cleaning as directed.
Job Specifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Demonstrated physical ability to lift, carry and/or move equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds. Work requires the ability to stand for ninety percent of the work time.
Requires the ability to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines.
Requires good eye-hand coordination.
Requires the interpersonal ability to interact with staff and management.
Requires the ability to prepare the documentation necessary to conform to the standards outlined in SOP policy, AAMI and AATB standards, OSHA requirements and all other relative agencies.
Working Conditions
Requires extended hours during peak processing and/or procurement periods
Working environment temperatures may vary from 68 degrees F to 80 degrees F.
Hazardous conditions include but are not limited to the exposure to blood and/or body fluids from potentially infected donors and the potential of obtaining cuts and or punctures to skin from sharp instruments
Exposure to various cleaning chemicals
