Stock Clerks assigned to a Medical or a Detention Facility as their primary work location receive a premium in addition to their base salary.
This position is eligible for appointment at step 1, $44,449.60 annually. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5.
Future Salary Increases
June 25, 2027 - 4.77% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + 1.77% Market Increase)

$.50/hour Work Location Premium (Assigned to work in a locked facility in the Sheriffs Office as primary work location)
$300 Uniform Allowance (Reimbursed for Hard Toe Shoes)
Stock Clerk positions are allocated to various departments throughout the County of San Diego, with immediate vacancies in the Sheriffs Department.
Under general supervision, incumbents in this class receive, store, inventory, issue and deliver a variety of materials, supplies, and equipment for a department or division in a large storeroom or warehouse. Essential functions are considered routine and physical in nature.
Stock Clerks assigned to the Sheriffs Office may assign, train, instruct, lead, or supervise incarcerated persons and perform retail tasks such as scanning items on a point-of-sale terminal and delivery of Commissary orders in designated areas of a detention facility or within Sheriffs Commissary Stores. Applicants must be willing to work any shift, on holidays or weekends and may work in a 24-hour detention facility, based on assignment. Shift premium and locked facility premium may be available.
Ideal Candidate
Forklift experience is desirable, but not required. For Stock Clerks assigned to the Sheriffs Commissary, retail experience is also desirable, but not required.

Education and Experience
Six (6) months of storeroom experience in receiving, storing, issuing, delivering, and inventorying supplies, materials, and equipment.
Note: Depending on assignment, select positions may require possession of a valid Certified Forklift Operators license from a recognized agency or organization within thirty (30) days after appointment.

Working Conditions
Work primarily takes place indoors within an office or storeroom environment or warehouse environment (separate building). Work involves frequent travel to various locations within the County to pick up or deliver items. When assigned to a warehouse, work involves occasional exposure to heights, loud machine noises, unpleasant odors, gaseous fumes, dust, debris, and varying temperatures. When assigned to the Sheriffs Department, work involves frequent interaction with adult incarcerated persons who may be uncooperative, upset, hostile, and potentially violent.

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.
Employees who work at County locations subject to the California Department of Public Health State Public Health Officer order are required to be fully vaccinated. In addition, booster-eligible employees must receive their booster by March 1, 2022, or within 15 days of becoming eligible for a booster if they are not eligible as of March 1, 2022. If there are CDPH date changes for Booster compliance, employees must come into compliance in accordance with that date.
