Our client has a brand new opportunity for a qualified Storage Architect Engineer to join their team for a hybrid role based in Atlanta, GA. This role will require 2 to 3 days working onsite.
 
This Engineer will join the infrastructure team as a senior technical leader and escalation point for complex enterprise storage and data protection challenges. This role requires a hands-on engineer with deep storage expertise and a software engineering mindset, capable of driving automation, modernization, and AI-assisted operations. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, proactive problem solver focused on root cause elimination, and strong technical communicator who thrives in fast-paced environments and can independently own initiatives after initial KT.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Storage and Data Protection Engineering
  • Act as L3 escalation point for complex storage and backup incidents
  • Design, implement, and manage enterprise storage (SAN, NAS, Object)
  • Architect data protection solutions (backup, replication, snapshots, DR)
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for critical incidents
  • Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and optimization
  • Evaluate and implement new storage/data protection technologies
 
Automation and Software Engineering
  • Develop automation scripts and frameworks for provisioning, monitoring, and remediation
  • Build Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions for storage lifecycle management
  • Integrate storage workflows into CI/CD pipelines
  • Identify manual processes and automate to reduce operational toil
  • Collaborate with platform/app teams for end-to-end automation integration
 
AI and Intelligent Operations
  • Apply AI/ML and AIOps for anomaly detection and predictive analytics
  • Build AI-assisted tools for log analysis, incident triage, and forecasting
  • Evaluate AIOps platforms for storage operations enhancement
 
Collaboration and Leadership
  • Act as SME and mentor for L1/L2 engineers
  • Partner with architects, security, and application teams
  • Create and maintain runbooks, documentation, and technical standards
  • Participate in architecture reviews and modernization initiatives

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 7+ years in enterprise Storage & Data Protection engineering
  • Strong L3 support experience in complex environments
  • Hands-on experience with production automation
  • Familiarity with software engineering practices (Git, code reviews, testing)
  • Technology Requirements - Storage Platforms:
    • SAN/All-Flash: Dell PowerStore / PowerMax / Unity, Pure Storage, NetApp AFF
    • NAS: Dell Isilon/PowerScale, NetApp ONTAP
    • Object: Dell ECS, NetApp StorageGRID, AWS S3, Azure Blob
  • Technology Requirements - Data Protection:
    • Rubrik, Dell PowerProtect/Avamar
    • Cloud backup solutions (AWS, Azure)
  • Technology Requirements - Cloud & Virtualization:
    • AWS (S3, EBS, EFS, Backup)
    • Azure (Blob, Disks, Azure Backup)
    • VMware vSphere/vCenter, Nutanix AHV, vSAN, HCI platforms\
  • Automation & DevOps:
    • Python / PowerShell / Bash / Go (any strong scripting language)
    • REST API integrations
    • Terraform, Ansible, or similar IaC tools
    • Git version control workflows
    • CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitLab CI, Ansible Tower/AWX
  • AI / Modern Operations:
    • Experience with AIOps or AI/ML in infrastructure
    • Observability, predictive analytics, automated remediation tools
    • API-based integrations for intelligent operations
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Vendor certifications (Dell, NetApp, Pure Storage, Rubrik, AWS, Azure, VMware)
  • Cloud-native / hybrid storage architecture experience
  • Kubernetes storage (CSI drivers, storage classes)
  • Data governance/compliance (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Open-source or internal tooling contributions
     
 
Wage Range:
The rate for this position is between $48.00 - 65.00 per hour, unless local minimum wage is higher. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
