Bark If You’re Dirty is a locally owned pet retail and service business dedicated to helping pets live healthier, happier lives. We offer quality pet food, treats, toys, self-service dog washes, professional grooming, and our popular pet bakery.

We’re looking for an experienced, energetic Store Manager who loves working with people, enjoys being around animals, and knows how to lead a team while driving sales and creating an exceptional customer experience.

THE ROLE

As Store Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day success of the store. You will lead and develop your team, drive sales, maintain operational excellence, and ensure every customer and pet receives the friendly, knowledgeable service Bark If You’re Dirty is known for.

This is a hands-on leadership position. The ideal candidate is comfortable jumping in wherever needed—from helping customers and merchandising the sales floor to coaching employees and resolving customer concerns.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, motivate, coach, and develop a team of retail and service employees.

• Hire, train, onboard, and retain talented team members.

• Create weekly employee schedules based on business needs and staffing requirements.

• Set clear expectations and hold employees accountable for performance and customer service.

• Conduct ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations.

• Build a positive, professional, team-oriented workplace culture.

• Ensure employees follow company policies, procedures, and service standards.

Sales & Customer Experience

• Take ownership of store sales and work toward achieving and exceeding sales goals.

• Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance and identify opportunities for growth.

• Coach the team on effective selling, product knowledge, promotions, and increasing basket size.

• Create an exceptional customer experience by ensuring customers receive friendly, knowledgeable, and personalized service.

• Handle customer questions, concerns, and escalated situations professionally.

• Promote our retail products, grooming, self-wash, memberships, bakery, and other services.

• Build relationships with regular customers and their pets.

Store Operations

• Oversee the daily operation of the store and ensure it is clean, organized, fully stocked, and welcoming.

• Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed correctly.

• Ensure proper weekly schedules to have stores running smoothly.

• Maintain high standards for cleanliness, safety, organization, and presentation.

• Ensure company policies and procedures are consistently followed.

• Monitor staffing levels and adjust schedules as needed to meet business demands.

• Help identify operational issues and implement solutions.

Inventory & Merchandising

• Assist Company Inventory Coordinator to monitor inventory levels and product availability.

• Assist Company Inventory Coordinator to maintain accurate inventory and minimize shrinkage, damages, and out-of-stocks.

• Ensure products are properly stocked, priced, rotated, and merchandised.

Marketing & Community Engagement

• Support and execute store promotions, sales events, and marketing initiatives.

• Help create excitement around new products, services, and promotions.

• Represent Bark If You’re Dirty at community events and local pet-related activities as needed.

• Encourage the team to actively engage with customers and promote our services and loyalty programs.

Performance & Accountability

• Review sales to understand store performance.

• Track key performance indicators and identify areas for improvement.

• Develop and implement action plans to improve sales, customer service, productivity, and profitability.

• Communicate store performance, staffing needs, operational concerns, and opportunities to ownership/management.

• Take initiative and solve problems rather than waiting to be directed.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 3+ years of retail management or leadership experience preferred.

• Pet industry, specialty retail, grooming, veterinary, or service-industry experience is a plus.

• Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and hold a team accountable.

• Proven ability to drive sales and meet performance goals.

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

• Comfortable working in a busy, hands-on retail environment.

• Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently.

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• Comfortable using POS systems, scheduling software, inventory systems, and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace.

• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.

• A genuine love of animals and enthusiasm for helping pet owners is a must!
