POSITION SUMMARY

The Stores Manager oversees the receipt, storage, inventory control, and distribution of materials, supplies, and tools for the Facilities Maintenance Division. This role ensures efficient warehouse operations, maintains accurate inventory records, enforces safety and compliance standards, and ensures the timely availability of materials to support ongoing maintenance and operational needs.

Qualifying Requirements:

Your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will receive notice of your eligibility status via email.

  • WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience in warehouse operations or inventory control. At least six (6) months of supervisor or manager experience preferred. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
  • EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. (See NOTE under General Application Requirements regarding education/training verification.)
  • EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position, based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above. The Total Qualifying Requirement is five (5) years. (See NOTE under General Application Requirements regarding education/training verification.)

POSITION DUTIES

  • Forecasts material and budget needs, monitors contracts, supplies, and material changes and upgrades; makes purchase recommendations to appropriate administrators, supervisors, and personnel.
  • Manages daily receiving, issuing, and storing of materials.
  • Supervises assigned personnel; evaluates employees; recommends and implements approved disciplinary and/or corrective action; provides training and technical assistance as requested or required.
  • Maintains accurate inventory for facilities materials using internal service portals and software, including but not limited to SharePoint sites and Atlantis inventory system.
  • Ensures optimal stock levels and initiates reordering to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Conducts regular stock audits and physical inventory counts.
  • Ensures proper labeling, handling, and physical storage of materials and equipment.
  • Coordinates with vendors, Department of Public Works divisions and warehouse, and other departments as needed for delivery of materials concerning DPW Facilities operations and services.
  • Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, organizes, and controls the materials, equipment, and personnel under jurisdiction toward the effective, efficient, and economical attainment of program goals, including maximum convenience to the public and safety of employees.
  • Validates product quality; reports damages, shortages, or discrepancies to vendors.
  • Implements and enforces health and safety standards for inventory and storage handling.
  • Prepares costs of goods sold reports, including costs of beginning inventory, purchases, and ending inventory.
  • Oversees disposal of obsolete, damaged, or depreciated inventory.
  • Ensures compliance with City and department policies and internal controls.
  • Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
