If so, you are highly encouraged to apply for the Stormwater Principal Planner position in the Department of Transportation & Environmental Services (T&ES), Stormwater Management Division, to perform professional and technical work as part of the stormwater management team. A person in this role will lead environmental site plan review and supervise two staff in environmental site plan review, the City's Stormwater Quality Facility Best Management Program (BMP) Inspection Program, and the Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE) Program and serve as administrator for the City's Virginia Erosion and Stormwater Management Program (VESMP) and the Chesapeake Bay Act (CPBA) local programs. The goals of these important environmental programs include reducing the impact of development and redevelopment on Alexandria streams, the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake Bay.

The Ideal Candidate Four-Year College Degree; at least five years of progressively-responsible experience in urban or transportation planning and management of large-scale urban projects, and completion of college-level courses in urban planning, transportation or transit planning, public administration, engineering, geography, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
The preferred candidate will possess a bachelor's degree and at least five years of responsible experience in stormwater management planning, water resources, or engineering and completion of college-level courses in environmental science, biology, ecology, soils, stream ecosystems, and water quality, or related field; with training in stormwater plan review and erosion and sediment control.
