Description AWS Professional Services is seeking a Strategic Modernisation Consultant to lead a landmark Agentic AI-powered application modernisation program for one of Australia's largest mining and resources companies. This is a Perth-based engagement to modernise a complex, business-critical legacy platform using generative & agentic AI tooling, domain-driven decomposition, and cloud-native architecture patterns - compressing what would traditionally be a multi-year modernisation effort into an accelerated timeline. The program has already delivered significant value in its first year, validating the approach through working prototypes and measurable business outcomes. You will be the senior technical and consulting leader for the engagement, responsible for modernisation strategy, executive stakeholder management, multi-partner delivery orchestration, and value realisation. You will lead a cross-functional team of 14+ engineers and architects across three parallel delivery squads, working alongside a global management consulting partner and the customer's internal technology teams. Key job responsibilities Strategic Leadership - Own the end-to-end modernisation strategy - from GenAI tooling productionisation through domain decomposition to legacy system retirement - Define and sequence modernisation waves, balancing technical risk, business impact, and resource constraints - Shape program commercial structure, including resource mix, investment trade-offs, and statement of work design - Translate technical progress into business value language for executive and Board-level audiences Executive Engagement - Operate as a trusted advisor to the customer's CDIO and senior technology leadership at peer level - Partner with delivery partners, including global management consulting leaders, maintaining accountability for technical outcomes within a joint delivery model - Present to and influence C-suite and Board-level stakeholders on modernisation progress, risks, and strategic decisions - Engage with AWS senior leadership on program strategy, escalations, and resource commitments Technical Leadership - Lead the transition of validated GenAI prototypes from minimum lovable product to production - Define future-state domain architecture for a large-scale legacy platform with 1,000+ integrated assets - Provide architectural oversight across multiple delivery squads, ensuring consistency, quality, and operational readiness - Drive modernisation planning including dependency management, risk mitigation, and integration with enterprise platforms Team and Capability Building - Lead and mentor a team of senior engineers, architects, and specialists - Build modernisation capability within the customer's technology teams - the goal is customer self-sufficiency by program end - Orchestrate multi-partner delivery About the team Diverse Experiences AWS values diverse experiences. Basic Qualifications - 10+ years of consulting, design and implementation of serverless distributed solutions experience - 10+ years of leading complex, large-scale, IT, technical or engineering programs experience - 7+ years of working with Enterprise Application Modernization and Migration technologies, including, but not limited to, Mainframe, Serverless, Containers, or Cloud Operations experience - Experience in developing and deploying LLMs in production on GPUs, Neuron, TPU or other AI acceleration hardware - 7+ years of external or internal customer facing, complex and large scale project management experience - 10+ years of technical architecture, design, and cloud-based solution experience (AWS or equivalent) - Expert stakeholder management and experience advising senior executives at C-suite level, with AWS cloud architecture knowledge at Solutions Architect level or above Preferred Qualifications - Mining, resources, or heavy industry experience - understanding of OT/IT convergence, site-based delivery constraints, and operational technology environments - Experience with AWS Bedrock, agentic AI architectures, and GenAI-powered development tooling - Oracle database modernisation experience - Experience in the Australian market - Big Four or Fortune 500 consulting experience, including identifying and executing opportunities to improve, automate, or standardise business tools and processes Acknowledgement of country: In the spirit of reconciliation Amazon acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
