Job DetailsRole Summary:
The Strategic Procurement Specialist is responsible for developing and executing global sourcing strategies for
all third-party products, mechanical components, logistics, consumables, indirect operational and ‘Other’
categories across the business.
The role will lead the transformation of the company's global procurement and distribution model for all spend
categories other than PCBAs, electronic components, contract manufacturing, and complete box-build
solutions, establishing strategic supplier partnerships, optimising logistics networks, and implementing
scalable fulfilment solutions that support regional deployment and business growth.
Working closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, Engineering, and Finance, the position will drive supplier
consolidation, standardisation, distribution channel optimisation, and logistics network development to
improve service levels, reduce total cost, and enhance supply chain resilience.
The role will also provide leadership in global trade, import/export considerations, transportation strategy,
and third-party logistics management, supporting the organisation's transition to an integrated global supply
network.
Key Responsibilities
Global Category Strategy
- Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for:
- Third-party OEM manufactured products, equipment and systems
- Mechanical components, Fasteners and fixing systems
- Cables, fittings and connectivity products
- Packaging and consumables
- MRO and Indirect operational purchasing categories
- Low-value, high-volume C-items
- ‘Other’ spend categories
- Establish category roadmaps aligned with business growth and operational objectives.
- Consolidate spend and leverage global purchasing power across all business locations.
- Reduce supplier complexity through rationalisation and standardisation initiatives.
- Develop preferred supplier strategies for key categories.
- Create global agreements and pricing frameworks that can be leveraged across regions.
Third-Party Product & Supplier Strategy
- Develop strategic relationships with global suppliers of externally designed products incorporated
into PBE Axell projects & solutions.
- Evaluate market opportunities and supplier capabilities.
- Lead / Support supplier selection, qualification and onboarding activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve supply continuity, quality, service performance and commercial
terms.
- Ensure suppliers can support long-term business growth and regional deployment requirements.
- Partner with Sales and Product Management to align sourcing strategy with market requirements.
Logistics Network Development
- Develop and implement the company's future-state global logistics strategy.
- Support the transition of the distribution model to a scalable global fulfilment network.
- Assess regional distribution requirements across North America, Europe, Africa, APAC and other
operating regions.
- Identify opportunities to improve lead times, customer responsiveness, and overall logistics
efficiency.
- Evaluate logistics network design options to support future business growth.
- Collaborate with the Global SIOP Manager to align logistics capability with customer demand
forecasts.
Distribution Partner & 2PL / 3PL Management
- Lead selection and management of strategic distribution partners for standardised products and
low-value procurement categories.
- Evaluate and implement preferred industrial distribution partnerships.
- Assess opportunities for vendor-managed inventory (VMI), consignment stock, and integrated
replenishment solutions.
- Evaluate, select, and manage 2PL and 3PL providers.
- Develop service-level agreements and performance metrics for logistics providers.
- Monitor logistics provider performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Establish scalable warehousing and fulfilment strategies across global regions.
Trade Compliance & Global Logistics Governance
- Develop understanding and governance of international trade requirements.
- Support import and export compliance activities across all business operations.
- Evaluate the impact of:
o Customs duties & tariffs
o Trade agreements
o Country-of-origin requirements
o Import/export regulations
- Work with specialist advisors and logistics partners where required to ensure compliance.
- Develop internal competency and awareness relating to international trade and logistics
requirements.
- Support optimisation of landed cost across global supply chains.
Strategic Sourcing & Commercial Management
- Lead strategic sourcing projects and supplier negotiations.
- Conduct RFQs, competitive sourcing exercises and supplier benchmarking activities.
- Develop total-cost-of-ownership models to support sourcing decisions.
- Negotiate pricing agreements, rebate structures, service agreements and commercial contracts.
- Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives.
- Deliver measurable savings and value improvement projects.
Supply Chain Risk & Resilience
- Assess and mitigate supply chain risks across procurement and logistics categories.
- Develop dual-sourcing and contingency strategies where appropriate.
- Monitor supplier performance, financial stability, and operational capability.
- Ensure continuity plans exist for strategic suppliers and critical categories.
- Lead responses to supply disruptions affecting key business operations.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Sales, Operations, Product Management, Engineering and
Finance teams.
- Support global standardisation initiatives.
- Provide market intelligence and category expertise to senior leadership.
- Lead procurement and logistics transformation projects.
- Drive adoption of best practices across all regions.
- Support acquisition integration and global expansion activities where applicable.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
- Strong experience in Strategic Procurement, Category Management, Supply Chain Strategy, or Global
Sourcing
- Experience managing diverse global supplier portfolios.
- Strong understanding of procurement principles, logistics operations, and supply chain optimisation.
- Experience leading supplier negotiations and commercial agreements.
- Knowledge of international supply chains and global sourcing practices.
- Strong analytical, commercial, strategic planning and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience driving business transformation initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to influence senior stakeholders across multiple business
functions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (XLOOKUP, pivot tables, analytics) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced production environment.
Desired:
- APICS/CPIM, CIPS level 5 or above, or equivalent Supply Chain qualification.
- Experience developing global distribution or warehousing strategies.
- Experience with industrial distribution partners and integrated supply solutions.
- Knowledge of import/export compliance, customs procedures, tariffs, and duty management.
- Experience managing 2PL, 3PL, or 4PL service providers.
- Experience operating in multinational manufacturing or industrial businesses across North America,
Europe, Africa, and Asia supply markets
- Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement certification.
