Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dependable Street Crew Leader to oversee and participate in street construction and maintenance projects. This position works under the direct supervision of the Street Supervisor and is responsible for leading daily crew operations while actively contributing to project completion.
The ideal candidate has strong leadership experience, the ability to operate heavy equipment, and a solid background in public works or construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate crew activities on assigned street and infrastructure projects
- Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment, including:
tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, front-end loaders, dump trucks, asphalt patchers, and sewer jetters - Assist with construction and maintenance of roads, drainage systems, sidewalks, and public infrastructure
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project standards
- Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors
- Participate in hands-on labor as needed alongside the crew
- Respond to after-hours service calls as part of an on-call rotation
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Proven ability to operate a wide range of construction equipment
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in outdoor conditions
Preferred:
- Experience in public works or a related field
- Demonstrated crew leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment used in infrastructure work
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods
Work Environment
- Outdoor, field-based work
- Exposure to heavy equipment, traffic areas, and varying weather conditions
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Pay & Schedule
- Pay: $20 per hour
- Schedule: Mon-Fri 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (some night or weekend work required)
- On-Call: Participation in after-hours service rotation required
