Street Maintenance Crew Operator

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable and experienced Street Maintenance Crew Operator to support construction and maintenance of public infrastructure. This position works under the direct supervision of the Street Supervisor and Street Crew Leader and plays a key role in maintaining roads, drainage systems, and other city facilities.

The ideal candidate has experience operating heavy equipment, working in outdoor environments, and contributing to a team-oriented crew.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment, including:
  tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, front-end loaders, dump trucks, asphalt patchers, and sewer jetters
• Assist with construction and maintenance of roads, drainage systems, sidewalks, and public infrastructure
• Support daily crew operations and help ensure timely project completion
• Follow direction from Street Supervisor and Crew Leader
• Maintain equipment and ensure safe operation at all times
• May assist with supervising crew activities when directed
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Ability to safely operate construction and maintenance equipment
• Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in outdoor conditions

Preferred:

• Experience in public works, construction, or related field
• Familiarity with roadwork, drainage systems, and maintenance methods
• Leadership or crew supervision experience

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods

Work Environment

• Outdoor, field-based work
• Exposure to weather, heavy equipment, and construction conditions
• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Pay & Schedule

• Pay: $18 per hour
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
  (May require occasional night or weekend work based on project needs)
