**POSITION:** Street Maintenance Worker I (Seasonal / Temporary) **SCHEDULE:** Seasonal / Temporary **LOCATION:** (Not provided) **SALARY:** Will discuss with applicant **TO APPLY:** Direct Link: https://www.winnemuccacity.org/employment/ Career Page: https://www.winnemuccacity.org/employment/ Please note, employers may close jobs on the website at any time. **SUMMARY:** Under close supervision, performs a variety of routine roadway, roadside, and structural maintenance activities to restore the roadway surface and maintain its integrity. **MINIMUM/PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:** Knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in routine road maintenance activities Knowledge of city/county and department policies and procedures Knowledge of state department of transportation regulations Knowledge of relevant traffic laws Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to work as a member of a team Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and public Ability to work under adverse conditions such as extreme heat or extreme cold, in or near the path of moving vehicles, or in difficult or steep terrain Ability to perform heavy or physical labor Ability to write sufficiently to keep simple records Ability to read at a sufficient level to understand written instructions on vehicle operation, vehicle maintenance, work procedures, and hazardous material handling A valid Nevada drivers license is required at the time of appointment Possession of a high school diploma or one year of experience as a general laborer or semi-skilled worker that demonstrates an ability and dexterity to operate tools and equipment **JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:** Perform preventative maintenance and minor repair on a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment in order to maximize use and efficiency Maintain roadside slopes, shoulders, culverts, and ditches in order to restore drainage and prevent erosion Repair and maintain streets including asphalt patching, snow removal, crack filling, sanding, sweeping, trash removal and sealing Establish traffic control using established methods to reroute traffic or control traffic speed and flow Remove roadway and roadside debris and excess dirt that may pose a traffic hazard Operate a variety of hand tools, powered tools, and light, medium, and heavy equipment associated with roadway maintenance Participate in pavement striping and marking by calculating patterns and distances and operating specialized equipment such as pavement striper, thermoplastic applicator, and high pressure sprayers Respond to call-out in emergencies, other than normal working hours, as needed Maintain roadway signs that may be damaged or are no longer legible, by cleaning, straightening, or installing new signs Assist other public works department crews as directed **WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:** Strength, dexterity, coordination, and vision to use tools and equipment for prolonged periods Strength and stamina to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods of time Strength and dexterity to operate small, medium, and heavy equipment Strength and stamina to endure standing and working for long periods of time and in extreme weather conditions Dexterity and vision to observe oncoming traffic hazards and react quickly to emergency situations Some heavy lifting (over 75 pounds) is occasionally required Vision to read printed materials Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone Position functions outdoors on roads and highway areas May occasionally be required to operate heavy machinery in hazardous environments Environment is generally dirty, with prolonged exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, noise, or odors Frequent interruptions to planned work activities occur Most work is performed outside with exposure to extreme weather conditions including heat, rain, snow, cold, and wind **EEO:** In co pliance with applicable disability laws, reasonable accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals with a disability who require and request such accommodations.
