POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Street Technician I-IV position performs semi-skilled to skilled labor involving operation of light and commercial vehicles, machinery, and hand and power tools in public works maintenance and construction. Work requires considerable physical exertion and is often performed outdoors under severe working conditions. Operating Hours for this position are Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is a mandatory requirement of this position to work overtime, take weekend duty, and be on call for emergency work such as snow removal, water breaks, and sewer backups. Applicants must be able to respond to the Westminster Municipal Service Center within 30 to 45 minutes when on call. This is a safety-sensitive position.
The starting salary for this position is $23.35 to $27.66 per hour ($48,568 to $57,532.80 annually) dependent on level of experience. The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage, and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee's level of proficiency and usage.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Tasks
Operates a variety of heavy and light construction equipment, including:
Tandem and single axle dump trucks
Snowplows and spreaders
Line grinders, plate compactors, asphalt rollers, and concrete saws
Crack sealers, tack distributors, and backpack blowers
Gas and electric-powered equipment, hand tools, and other equipment as required
Services and performs minor repairs on assigned equipment and machinery
Conducts inspections and prepares reports for maintenance and repair work on vehicles and equipment
Other Duties and Responsibilities
May perform painting, carpentry, and masonry work
May be required to perform duties from other primary assignment areas, including but not limited to, traffic signs and markings, and Utilities Operations (water distribution and wastewater collection)Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the Citys discretion.

Preferred:
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Street Technician II
Progression to Street Technician II requires fulfillment of all minimum qualifications for the Street Technician II position. Experience gained outside the City of Westminster may be considered in determining eligibility. Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in outdoor maintenance or construction, preferably in street maintenance.
Street Technician III
Progression to Street Technician III is dependent on satisfactory performance with the City as a Street Technician II in addition to meeting all minimum requirements of the Street Technician III position.
Street Technician IV
Progression to Street Technician IV is dependent on satisfactory performance with the City as a Street Technician III in addition to meeting all minimum requirements of the Street Technician IV position.
Physical Requirements
This position is physical in nature and requires sufficient physical strength and stamina to:
WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasionally performs work indoors and constantly outdoors with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions. Performs maintenance and repair work year-round on busy city streets where loud noise and traffic may cause a distraction. Work is very physical in nature and requires a great amount of physical exertion in extreme conditions while working with material that exceeds 450 degrees Fahrenheit. On-call duty is also required for emergency maintenance and snow removal.
Required Materials and Equipment
Heavy and light construction vehicles and equipment including tandem and single axle dump trucks with snowplow and spreader, asphalt roller, line grinder, plate compactor, concrete saw, crack sealer, backpack blower, gas and electric powered equipment, jack hammer, generators, pumps, hand tools, construction materials, or supplies or any other related vehicles, equipment or tools. Personal protection equipment such as hardhat, steel-toed boots, safety vest, safety glasses, gloves and ear protection. General office equipment including a personal computer, telephone, radio, copier, and fax machine.

Benefit Package
The City of Westminster does not participate in the Social Security system. In lieu of Social Security contributions, the city contributes to a 401(a) defined contribution plan on your behalf.
401(a) Contribution Rates:
Employee Mandatory Contribution: 11.5% of your base pay. Contributions are pre-tax and fully vested.
Employer Contribution: 12% of your base pay.
