Job Description

Ravenscroft School is seeking a Strings Artist-in-Residence to join our Fine Arts Department. This part-time position supports Ravenscroft's large and dynamic Strings program by teaching Lower School Strings courses, assisting with Middle School Strings courses, and providing private violin and viola lessons to students across the Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools.

This role is ideal for a musician-educator who is passionate about working with young students, thrives in a collaborative environment, and brings both exceptional musicianship and strong professional communication skills. Teaching occurs on an 8-day rotation schedule between 7:45 AM and 3:45 PM, and includes attendance at rehearsals and performances for all courses and lesson students in this role.

The Strings program is one of the hallmarks of Ravenscroft's Fine Arts program. The Strings Artist-in-Residence will collaborate closely with at least four other Strings Instructors, as well as faculty in Music, Band, and Choir, and will engage positively and proactively with families through Ravenscroft's active Fine Arts Association.

 

What You'll Do: 

  • Teach Lower School Strings courses to support a large, dynamic LS Strings program
  • Assist with Middle School Strings courses
  • Provide private lessons in violin and viola to students across Lower, Middle, and Upper School
  • Attend and support all rehearsals and performances for courses and lesson students taught in this role
  • Collaborate with at least four other Strings Instructors, as well as faculty in Music, Band, and Choir
  • Build and maintain positive, proactive relationships with parents, including through Ravenscroft's active Fine Arts Association

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Exceptional musicianship skills, with proficiency in viola and violin 
  • Prior classroom teaching experience
  • Prior private instruction experience
  • Strong, professional communication and organizational skills
  • Genuine desire to work with students in Grades K–5

Preferred: 

  • Experience teaching in a private school or community music program
  • Private studio teaching experience

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role is based on Ravenscroft's campus and involves teaching on an 8-day rotation schedule between 7:45 AM and 3:45 PM, with attendance at rehearsals and performances, which may occasionally occur outside of regular teaching hours. The position requires the ability to stand, move throughout classroom and rehearsal spaces, demonstrate instrumental technique, and lift and carry musical instruments and equipment.
