    TITLE: STRONG BEGINNINGS ASSOCIATE TEACHER

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Associate's degree in early childhood education or child development or the equivalent;
    • or a valid classroom CDA credential;
    • Certification in CPR and First Aid

    REPORTS TO: Building Administrator or designee

    SUPERVISES: NA

    JOB GOAL: The Strong Beginnings associate teacher is responsible for working as a team member in providing a quality educational and care program for young preschool children by supporting the classroom teacher in planning, assessing, instructing and nurturing students. The position includes assisting the classroom teacher in maintaining required records to ensure grant compliance and meet licensing guidelines.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience in working with young children, particularly with toddlers, three-year-olds and/or at-risk children
    • Ability to be self-directed and take initiative when given a variety of tasks and responsibilities.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and teachers
    • Ability to work well with diverse families
    • Ability to act collaboratively with a family liaison and as a resource person for families
    • Outgoing, caring and nurturant personality
    • Regular predictable attendance is an essential function of the position

    ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work as a team member in providing a quality educational and caring preschool program
    • Assist in planning, implementing, and monitoring curriculum and assessment
    • Assist in establishing parent involvement activities
    • Assist in home visits
    • Assist in all daily operations of the program
    • Work with individual and small groups of students
    • Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts
    • Assist children with developing independence in self-care skills such as toileting as well as personal health care/hygiene needs
    • Work collaboratively and communicate with the classroom teacher to implement lesson plans, activities, classroom tasks
    • Work collaboratively and communicate with the classroom teacher and family liaison to support children's and families' well-being.
    • Assist teacher with monitoring behavior and supporting the educational process, growing independence and developing self-help skills of children in the classroom
    • Observe students' performance and record relevant data to assess progress
    • Collect and document data regarding the student(s)
    • Maintain accurate and complete student records
    • Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, and/or playground
    • Participate in trainings and on-going professional development
    • Able to work flexible hours as needed for family involvement activities, including home visits, recruitment events, open house
    • Capable of performing physical demands of the job, including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and standing for long periods of time
    • Work in an environment that has a raised noise level
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    • Within the first 30 days of employment and every year after (as long as remaining in the position) employee must complete the following: Infant, Child, & Adult CPR, first aid, blood borne pathogen training, and 16 clock hours of training in child development, curriculum, child discipline, health/safety, nutrition, working with parents, licensing rules for child care centers, and/or other relevant educational topics.

    Hours: Mon-Fri - 8:30am-12:30pm

    EVALUATION: Participate in and accept annual performance reviews
