Structural Design Engineer
Location: Birmingham, AL 35223
Pay Range: 33.65 to 43.67 per hour (70,000 to 90,000 annually if converted to direct hire)
Assignment: 6-Month Contract-to-Direct (Direct hire if necessary)
Overview
An established structural engineering firm is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to support a growing portfolio of commercial and industrial projects across the Southeast. This role offers the opportunity to coordinate, design, review, and help submit proposals for a wide variety of structural projects while working alongside a collaborative team of engineers.
This position is ideal for an EIT who is actively pursuing SE licensure and looking to deepen their experience in structural analysis, design, and construction documentation. This is an onsite role in Birmingham, AL, beginning as a 6-month contract with strong potential for direct hire.
Key Responsibilities
Perform structural calculations and analysis for commercial and industrial building projects
Develop complete construction documents including plans, details, and specifications
Utilize structural analysis and design software such as STAAD, RAM, or similar programs
Coordinate structural designs with internal engineers and external project stakeholders
Review and contribute to project proposals and technical submissions
Manage multiple project deadlines while maintaining high-quality deliverables
Conduct occasional local site visits to support project execution and coordination
Collaborate with team members to share best practices, resolve technical issues, and develop innovative solutions
Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a strong structural curriculum (Master of Science in Civil Engineering preferred)
Minimum of 2 years of structural design experience
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with goal of obtaining SE licensure
Experience using structural analysis software such as STAAD, RAM, or similar
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Ability to work onsite in Birmingham, AL
Preferred Skills
Masters degree in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis
Experience working on commercial and industrial building structures
Exposure to proposal development and client-facing coordination
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
