Job Title: Structural Designer
Job Description
The Structural Designer supports industrial and heavy construction projects across sectors such as bulk material handling, energy, renewables, manufacturing, and broader infrastructure. This non-degreed designer role focuses on drafting, 3D modeling, and structural analysis support using STAAD and Trek software platforms. The position produces detailed structural designs, drawings, and models in close collaboration with engineers and multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring constructible, code-compliant solutions for industrial facilities.
Responsibilities
- Develop structural designs, layouts, and detailed drawings for steel, concrete, and foundation systems that support industrial facilities.
- Utilize STAAD software to create structural analysis models and provide analysis support for design calculations under the direction of engineers.
- Create, update, and maintain accurate 3D models and fabrication drawings using Trek to support structural detailing and construction.
- Translate engineering concepts, sketches, and marked-up drawings into complete, constructible design packages suitable for fabrication and field installation.
- Coordinate closely with internal disciplines, including mechanical, piping, and electrical teams, to ensure fully integrated and clash-free designs.
- Produce general arrangement drawings, connection details, and erection drawings for structural steel and concrete systems.
- Support material take-offs (MTOs) and assist in preparing procurement documentation to ensure accurate material quantities and specifications.
- Review vendor drawings and incorporate relevant information into project design deliverables to maintain alignment with overall project requirements.
- Ensure all drawings and models comply with applicable codes, industry standards, and client specifications.
- Participate in design reviews and collaborate with engineers and project teams to meet project scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented engineering and construction environment while supporting large-scale industrial and energy projects.
Essential Skills
- Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Design Technology, or a closely related field.
- 3+ years of structural design and drafting experience in industrial, engineering-procurement-construction (EPC), or construction environments.
- Hands-on experience using STAAD for structural modeling and analysis support.
- Hands-on experience using Trek for 3D modeling and structural detailing.
- Strong understanding of structural steel framing systems and their connections.
- Strong understanding of concrete foundations and anchor systems for industrial structures.
- Familiarity with industrial facility layouts and constructability principles.
- Ability to interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and design standards.
- Proficiency with standard drafting and design tools, with AutoCAD familiarity preferred.
- Ability to produce accurate, detailed, and code-compliant structural drawings and models.
- Capability to work effectively with engineers and multidisciplinary project teams in an industrial setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Technical education in drafting or design technology that emphasizes structural detailing and industrial design.
- Experience working on large-scale projects in energy, renewables, or infrastructure sectors.
- Exposure to industrial design-build and modular fabrication environments.
- Experience participating in design reviews and addressing feedback from engineers and project stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design tasks while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for coordinating with mechanical, piping, and electrical disciplines.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing constructible, field-ready design packages.
- Interest in growing within design, detailing, and project execution teams.
Work Environment
This role is based in an office environment and requires on-site presence five days per week. The position operates within a collaborative, team-oriented engineering and construction setting that supports industrial design-build and modular fabrication projects. The Structural Designer works closely with engineers and multidisciplinary teams, using tools such as STAAD, Trek, and standard drafting software (including AutoCAD) to deliver high-quality design packages for large-scale industrial, energy, renewables, and infrastructure projects.
