Structural Engineer (Bridge)Remote Status: On-SitePosition SummaryThe Structural Engineer will work with the design team to ensure that infrastructure designs meet technical and safety standards, budget, and timeline constraints. Candidates should be familiar with SCDOT Design Practices and have experience on Design‑Bid‑Build projects, with 5‑10 years of bridge design experience.ResponsibilitiesAnalyze and design structural components for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation‑related systems.Deliver technical solutions in the form of contract documents such as construction plans, design calculations, and project specifications.Perform structural design using AASHTO and other applicable specifications, as well as state and local requirements.Assist with project management, seismic design, load rating, review and approval of construction submittals, and quality control.Communicate with clients, contractors, vendors, and other consultants to ensure compliance with engineering standards.Mentor junior staff and perform managerial duties as assigned.Maintain organized documentation and archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals.Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI's) as necessary.RequirementsBS Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.PE in South Carolina required.5‑10 years of bridge design experience preferred.Familiarity with SCDOT Bridge Design practices desired.Expertise in MicroStation and OpenRoads.Familiarity with ProjectWise, Microsoft Products, LEAP Bridge, CSI Bridge, and other structural design software.Knowledge of job cost, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts.Strong oral and written communication skills.Must be a US Citizen or have a Green Card; visa sponsorship is not available.Expected Hours of WorkThis is an on‑site full‑time position (40 hours per week). Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM‑5:00 PM. The office is located at 115 Fairchild Street, Suite 100, Charleston, SC 29492.Physical DemandsWork primarily in a sedentary position for up to eight hours per day. Ability to recognize, change, and add precise details on CAD drawings is required. Field work may involve driving, lifting heavy objects, walking, bending, and reaching.
