Structural Engineer

Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Structural Project Engineer (PE and/or SE) to join our growing Structural Engineering team in our Birmingham, AL office.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in structural design analysis and project delivery and will serve as the structural lead and Engineer of Record for a variety of project sectors including:

• Industrial
• Healthcare
• Mission Critical
• Data Centers
• Commercial
• Federal
• Water/Wastewater

This role is ideal for a licensed engineer who thrives in a technical leadership position, enjoys mentoring junior staff, and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities:

• Serves as Structural Lead and Engineer of Record for projects across multiple market sectors.
• Performs and oversees structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and foundation structures.
• Directs and mentors Junior Engineers and Structural Designers, providing technical guidance and quality control.
• Prepares and reviews calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports for accuracy and constructability.
• Coordinates with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Provides technical guidance on project scope, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
• Conducts site visits and construction observations to support design intent and resolve field issues.
• Completes assignments within budget and schedule while working with design teams involving multiple disciplines.
• Provides career development mentoring to early-career engineers.
• Assists in client contact and communication and attends client meetings.
• Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in programs or applications.
• Assists with the preparation of proposals.
• Stays current with applicable codes, standards, and best practices and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Performs other duties as required.
