Structural Engineer
Pay Range:
- $45 60/hr, dependent on experience
Summary:
- The Engineer must have advanced knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of structural engineering and exercise independent judgment in the performance of the position objectives.
- Will be responsible for understanding, interpreting and applying applicable codes, as well as evaluating alternative designs.
- Must have a high degree of effective communication with mechanical, electrical, I&C, process, and piping groups in a multidiscipline environment.
- Will be expected to work on multiple projects at one time.
- Will meet with customers to discuss engineering elated questions and project timing as well as go to field to gather field data and conduct inspections
Job Details:- Perform analyses using hand calculations and/or computer aided structural analysis packages.
- Prepares finite element models, interpret FEA results, and incorporate results into technical documents.
- Prepares calculations for steel structures and heavy foundations.
- Independently prepares drawings and directs/conveys concepts to designers or other staff to prepare drawings.
- Prepares and reviews technical reports and documents.
- Prepares front-end-loading (FEL) studies and material takeoffs for construction cost estimates.
- Review of vendor documentation
- Construction administration tasks such as shop drawing review and RFI responses.
- Ability to work on job sites gathering information or construction observations.
- Ability to act as engineer-of-record and/or structural discipline lead.
- Familiar with business development concepts and methods and provides support on proposals.
- Communicate with discipline leads and coworkers to ensure consistent designs are produced.
- Manages own budgets and schedules and reports to project manager on estimate-to-complete, project status updates, etc.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree or Masters degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Professional Engineer license is very highly preferred - but ok if candidate does not have the PE - as long as they can obtain it within a year or within 6 months would be best
- Minimum of 6 years of experience designing for heavy industrial facilities
- Thorough knowledge in technical theory and engineering principles and how to apply them
- Thorough knowledge of steel, concrete, and shallow and deep foundation designs for heavy industrial facilities
- Thorough knowledge in finite element modeling
- Familiarity with dynamic analysis, modal analysis, and time history analysis
- Thorough knowledge with codes and standards for structural engineering
- Thorough knowledge with STAAD, RISA-3D, AutoCAD. Revit is a plus
- Able to work with limited project information and formulate assumptions to develop designs
