About the Opportunity

Walker Consultants is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join our Minneapolis office for Summer 2027. This internship provides an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and consultants on a variety of structural design, restoration, forensic, and building envelope projects.

As part of our Minneapolis team, you will gain hands-on experience supporting project development from investigation and design through construction administration and field observation. You''ll collaborate with engineers and project managers, apply engineering concepts to real-world projects, and develop technical skills that will help lay the foundation for a successful career in structural engineering. The Minneapolis office serves clients throughout the Upper Midwest and offers exposure to a wide range of building and infrastructure projects.

What You''ll Do

• Work directly with Project Engineers and Project Managers to support project design and documentation.
• Prepare and revise structural drawings, details, calculations, and technical reports.
• Utilize BIM technology (Revit) to develop and coordinate 3D building models.
• Perform structural design calculations and detailing for building structures, foundations, and retaining systems.
• Interpret and apply building codes, industry standards, and project requirements.
• Assist with field investigations, site visits, condition assessments, and construction observations.
• Review construction documents, shop drawings, and project submittals.
• Participate in project coordination meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Support the preparation of engineering reports, calculations, and other project deliverables.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

• Actively pursuing a Bachelor''s or Master''s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural/Engineering Technology.
• 0-5 years of previous structural design experience.
• Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Reliable access to a personal vehicle is required for the duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience using Revit.
• Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD.
• Coursework or experience in Structural Analysis, Reinforced Concrete, Steel Design, or Foundation Design.
• Interest in restoration, forensic investigations, and building envelope consulting.
• Willingness to travel locally for project site visits and fieldwork.
