Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is Atrium Health's flagship academic medical center in Charlotte and the quaternary referral hub for Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute. CMC is an 874 bed tertiary and quaternary care hospital providing the highest level of heart and vascular care across the Carolinas and serving as the destination for complex, high acuity cardiovascular patients. A major new 12 story advanced care facility is scheduled to open in spring 2027. This flagship project, which broke ground in July 2023, will feature 448 patient rooms, 38 operating rooms, 16 procedure rooms, and a new emergency department. CMC is the region's only Level I Trauma Center and is a transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver.
CMC is one of North Carolina's five Academic Medical Center teaching hospitals, providing residency training for more than 200 physicians across 15 specialties, and serves as a regional campus for Wake Forest University School of Medicine, based in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Heart and vascular services at CMC include comprehensive electrophysiology, advanced heart failure, interventional cardiology, cardiac surgery, and mechanical circulatory support. The hospital is home to the region's only heart transplant program and pediatric heart surgery program, making it a critical site for complex adult and congenital cardiac care.

About Structural Heart Imaging Team
Four dedicated intraprocedural imagers and two experienced clinic based physicians embedded within our multidisciplinary valve clinic.
High volume structural heart program with annual volumes exceeding 450 TAVR procedures, 70+ mitral interventions, 20+ tricuspid interventions, and 300+ left atrial appendage occlusion cases.
Active involvement in major clinical trials evaluating structural heart therapies, with robust opportunities for imaging focused research in echocardiography, cardiac CT, and cardiac MRI.
Equipment
Newest Philips echo equipment, Siemens Alpha Photon CT scanner, and Siemens 3T and 1.5T cardiac MRIs
Call & Weekend Coverage
Nine weekends per year (Saturday/Sunday)
Weeknight calls - approximately 2-3 per month
Typical Weekly Schedule
2-3 imaging days (includes 1 day in OR)
1-2 clinic days (cardiology clinic plus participation in valve center clinic)
Protected administrative time for directorship responsibilities
Training and/or Experience Required
BE/BC in Cardiovascular Disease
BE/BC Echo (Level III required)
BE/BC Cardiac CT and/or BE/BC Cardiac MRI
Minimum of 3 years practice experience post fellowship required
Advanced training in intraprocedural echocardiography (via an advanced imaging fellowship or > 2 years' experience performing transcatheter mitral / tricuspid valve interventions and left atrial appendage occlusion procedures)
Experienced in the pre- and peri-operative care of patients with valvular heart disease
Committed to active participation in a multi-disciplinary heart team, synthesizing and presenting multi-modality imaging data
