Position Summary
We are hiring a Quality Control Inspector with structural steel fabrication experience to verify the quality of steel components, welds, and coatings throughout the manufacturing process.
This is a hands-on shop-floor position. Most of the work takes place in an active manufacturing environment rather than an office, and the facility is not climate controlled.
Responsibilities
Inspect structural steel components throughout fabrication and confirm work meets project specifications and quality requirements.
Evaluate welding and fabrication against AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and other applicable standards.
Check incoming steel, parts, materials, and consumables for conformance.
Properly identify and document inspected materials.
Maintain inspection records, quality logs, and other required documentation.
Calibrate and maintain welding equipment and quality-control inspection tools.
Assist with welder qualification testing and certification.
Support employee training related to welding, fitting, fabrication, and quality standards.
Maintain drawing control and other quality-related systems.
Work with production and management to investigate and correct quality issues.
Participate in continuous improvement projects and company training.
Promote safe work practices and support workplace safety initiatives.
Required Qualifications
At least 2 years of structural steel fabrication experience.
Previous experience in quality control, inspection, or a related manufacturing position.
Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
Experience with quality inspection equipment, including:
Fillet weld gauges
V-WAC gauges
Squares
Tape measures
Other standard inspection tools
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.
Preferred Qualifications
Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
Experience with nondestructive testing methods, including:
Previous experience in a steel manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
Primarily performed on the production floor with limited office work.
Active structural steel manufacturing environment.
Non-climate-controlled facility with exposure to varying temperatures.
Position requires frequent standing, walking, and inspection of materials throughout the workday.
