Structural Steel Fabrication
Primary Welding Process: FCAW
Experience Required: 4-8 Years
What You'll Be Doing
Perform Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) on structural steel components including beams, columns, trusses, and plate assemblies
Execute welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
Weld carbon steel, low-alloy steel, and structural materials of varying thicknesses
Maintain high-quality weld standards including proper penetration, fusion, and bead appearance
Perform tack welding to align and secure assemblies prior to final welds
Conduct visual inspections to identify weld defects including cracks, porosity, or incomplete fusion
Complete minor weld repairs and modifications as needed
Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication specifications
Follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and maintain proper welding parameters
Work closely with fitters, fabricators, and shop leadership to maintain production flow
Maintain clean, organized, and safety-focused work areas
What You Bring
4-8 years of structural welding experience
Strong FCAW experience in a structural steel fabrication environment
Ability to read and interpret structural blueprints and welding symbols
Understanding of welding procedures, fit-up tolerances, and fabrication standards
Experience welding in multiple positions
Strong attention to detail and weld quality
Ability to work independently while contributing to overall team productivity
Commitment to safety, consistency, and craftsmanship
Physical & Work Environment
Ability to work in active fabrication shop environments
Comfortable working around heavy equipment, noise, heat, and steel fabrication operations
Ability to lift and move materials as needed
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods
