Internal Title Structured Cabling Infrastructure Administrator Position Type Classified Faculty / Non-Faculty / Administration Non-Faculty Pay Band TEC06 Level Department Infrastructure Job Purpose
The Structured Cabling Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the lifecycle of the College's inside and outside plant structured cabling infrastructure. The position serves as the technical owner for campus low-voltage and fiber optic cabling standards, manages service vendors and contractors responsible for installation and maintenance, maintains infrastructure documentation, and develops long-term infrastructure plans that support institutional technology needs. The position serves as the primary IT liaison with Facilities Management on operational issues and provides technical review and standards guidance for capital construction and renovation projects managed through the IT's Project Management Office (PMO).
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma with experience in cabling infrastructure. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required work experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of structured cabling systems including copper, fiber optic, inside plant (ISP), and outside plant (OSP) infrastructure. Knowledge of BICSI, ANSI/TIA-568, ANSI/TIA-606, ANSI/TIA-607, and applicable NEC standards. Understanding of fiber optic testing, certification, splicing, pathway design, and equipment room design. Ability to develop and maintain campus cabling standards, review construction drawings, interpret specifications, and manage vendor performance. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate infrastructure documentation and collaborate effectively with Facilities Management, contractors, and campus stakeholders. Understanding of cabling system lifecycle, including maintenance, upgrades, and end-of-life replacement planning.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be on call 24/7 for minimal support while carrying a cell phone. Occasional overnight travel for professional development may be required. Must climb into network locations (roofs, attics, basements), carry equipment, and drive on campus and to remote sites.
