This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As a functional manager of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of varying experience levels, you will lead a team of structures engineers responsible for the design and analysis of the New Glenn Second Stage secondary structures. As the Structures Engineering Manager, you will have technical, budgetary and schedule accountability for trade studies, detailed design, strength analysis, drawing release and you will follow through on manufacturing, testing and flight phases of the program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Provide technical and personal leadership to the GS2 Structures Engineering Team
Lead and execute peer reviews and readiness reviews in support of engineering releases and first article builds
Ensure timely release of engineering products including drawings, models, strength analyses
Manage workflow and balance priorities across the team in order to support schedule objectives
Coordinate and collaborate with other teams to meet design, build, and test milestones
Apply robust, consistent, and reliable engineering fundamentals and to ensure requirements are met
Manage non-recurring and recurring cost, develop budgets, report against financial forecast
Define roles, responsibilities, and accountability for each direct report and across the team
Lead or support maturation of configuration management and pedigree review processes

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Structures, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited institution
6+ years of relevant engineering experience
In-depth understanding of structures engineering principles
Previous experience and success in developing / fielding new systems
Previous engineering leadership in an aerospace environment with space hardware, aircraft or similar, mission critical high value components
Strong personnel, project management and interpersonal skills
Ability to operate, make decisions, lead, and make forward progress in ambiguous environments
Understanding of product life cycle management and associated gate reviews
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Science in Mechanical, Structures, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited institution
Experience managing direct reports and projects or programs
Experience leading an engineering team in a production environment
Experience in developing and tracking to department financial targets
Advanced experience in complex hardware Structures (i.e. castings, forgings, additively manufactured components, pressurized structures, welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing methods, complex assembly and acceptance testing)

Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $150,743.00 - $211,039.50
