Job Description:
Location: San Francisco/Hybrid
Department: Structural & Mechanical Engineering
Employment Type: Contractor full-time, convertible to salaried full-time.
Scope & Ownership
Owns the non-rotating structure and gas-path containment: compressor, combustor, CT and PT shells and casings; structural frames (including mid-turbine-frame structure); diffusers; inlet / air intake; exhaust chimneys; safety armor (containment) belts; static seals; and container static structure. Crossover: structures↔mechanical integration.
Minimum Education
● Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
● Master's preferred
Experience
● 4-8 years of structural / mechanical design of gas-turbine or aerospace hardware, or a relevant PhD plus ~2 years
● Casings, frames, pressure boundaries and rotor-burst containment
Skill Requirements
● Mechanics of materials; FEA (static / thermal / modal)
● GD&T; weldments and castings; containment / burst analysis
● Python/Matlab; 2D/3D CAD
Responsibilities
● Take sole ownership of hardware development from clean-sheet through high rate production across multiple components of the Parallax PE-10
● Collaborate with other REs to define interface requirements and manage coupled interactions
● Collaborate with Analysts to derive loads, environments, and response characteristics of your hardware across its operating envelope
● Develop and execute test and qualification plans for your hardware
● Analyze test and qualification data to derive margins and iterate on designs
● Collaborate with Production to develop and execute prototype, low rate, and full rate production of your hardware while balancing performance, cost, and complexity
● Flex across multiple disciplines and scopes as necessary
