Job Description

The Structures Technician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining aircraft structures and related systems in accordance with FAA regulations and internal standards. This role covers both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in a hangar environment, real-time line maintenance in support of active operations, and rapid-response AOG work to return aircraft to service quickly and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Perform heavy maintenance, structural repairs, modifications, and overhauls on aircraft systems and structures in a hangar environment.
  • Use technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics to plan, execute, and verify structural repairs and modifications.
  • Carry out pre-flight, post-flight, and turnaround inspections focused on structural integrity and readiness.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve structural and related systems issues during aircraft operations to minimize downtime.
  • Replace components, install fasteners, and perform minor and major structural repairs to ensure aircraft airworthiness.
  • Document all work performed accurately and completely in accordance with regulatory and company procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and Service Bulletins related to aircraft structures.
  • Support AOG situations by responding to urgent aircraft issues that prevent flight operations and performing timely repairs.
  • Travel to remote or off-site locations as needed to perform structural repairs and modifications under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment where rapid turnaround and urgency are critical.
  • Coordinate with flight crews, dispatch, operations, and maintenance control to provide real-time updates and expedite solutions.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation to determine repair methods, materials, and procedures.
  • Perform sheet metal fabrication, cutting, drilling, riveting, and installation of structural components such as skins, doublers, and brackets.
  • Install and remove structural fasteners including rivets, hi-loks, and other specialized hardware according to specifications.
  • Follow safe work practices when handling tools, equipment, and hazardous materials in accordance with applicable guidelines.
  • Maintain personal tools in good working order and ensure they are organized and secured in appropriate toolboxes.

Essential Skills

  • Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in commercial aircraft maintenance (for example, B737, A320, B747) or equivalent aircraft platforms.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on aircraft structures and sheet metal experience, including repair and modification work.
  • Strong understanding of FAA regulations and aircraft systems, with emphasis on structural components.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and test instruments for aircraft maintenance and structural repair.
  • Demonstrated experience with sheet metal and aircraft structures, including aircraft sheet metal repair and modification.
  • Ability to perform riveting, install and remove hi-loks and other fasteners, and complete structural repairs to specification.
  • Willingness to travel as required for AOG and remote support work.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, based on operational needs.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform overhead work safely.
  • Comfort working at heights and in confined spaces as required by structural access points.
  • Capability to stand, kneel, and walk for extended periods during maintenance activities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of urgency to return aircraft to service.
  • Ownership of personal tools suitable for aircraft structural work, organized in a toolbox.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) environments.
  • Familiarity with hazardous material handling and related safety procedures.
  • Ability to obtain an airport SIDA badge
  • Experience with aircraft modification projects, including structural upgrades and reconfigurations.
  • Exposure to a variety of aircraft platforms beyond commercial types is welcomed.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with operations, dispatch, and flight crews.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accurate maintenance documentation and recordkeeping.

Why Work Here?

This is a long-term opportunity in a dynamic aviation environment where structural technicians play a direct role in keeping aircraft safely in service. You will work with complex, challenging projects, including AOG situations that demand skill and quick thinking, offering continuous learning and professional growth. The organization values flexibility around shifts, supports technicians with consistent work in a hangar setting, and offers competitive compensation aligned with your experience and contributions.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in a hangar environment supporting active aircraft operations. The current schedule is a day shift, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of adding second and third shifts, so candidates who are flexible on shift assignments are preferred, though specific shift preferences can still be considered. The role involves working around operational aircraft, using a full range of sheet metal and structural tools and equipment, and occasionally traveling to remote locations for AOG support. The environment is fast paced, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and urgency in returning aircraft to service. Technicians are expected to bring and maintain their own tools, stored in a toolbox, while adhering to all applicable safety and maintenance procedures.
