Job Description

We are seeking a collaborative, student-centered professional to serve as our Student Accessibility Services Coordinator. In this role, you will support students with disabilities by coordinating academic accommodations, providing guidance throughout their educational journey, and ensuring equal access to programs and services.

Working closely with students, faculty, and campus partners, you'll facilitate accommodations, promote inclusive teaching and learning practices, and ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable regulations. You'll also contribute to outreach initiatives, provide training and consultation, manage confidential student records, and help advance a culture of accessibility and belonging across campus.

OB SUMMARY:

Under general guidelines, this position is responsible for supporting students with disabilities by coordinating academic accommodations and ensuring equal access to educational programs and services. This position ensures institutional compliance with applicable federal and state laws while promoting an inclusive and student-centered learning environment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership & Operations Management — 35%

  • Reviews, evaluates, and determines eligibility for student accommodation requests in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors individualized accommodation plans.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for students registered with Student Accessibility Services (SAS).
  • Coordinates and facilitates academic accommodations, including testing, note-taking, assistive technology, and alternative formats.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Oversight of Signature Institutional Initiatives — 20%

  • Maintains accurate, secure, and confidential student records in compliance with institutional policies.
  • Utilizes student information systems such as Ellucian Banner and related platforms to track services and student engagement.
  • Manages operational expenditures related to accessibility services (e.g., assistive technology, testing accommodations, and contracted services), ensuring cost-effective use of funds and adherence to established budget parameters. 

Academic Integration & Faculty Engagement — 20%

  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to ensure timely and appropriate implementation of accommodations.
  • Provides training and consultation to faculty and staff regarding accessibility, accommodations, and inclusive practices.

Marketing, Communications & Outreach — 20%

  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to accessibility services.
  • Supports outreach initiatives to increase awareness and utilization of Accessibility Services.

  • Completes all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned. 5%

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social work, or related field (Master’s degree preferred);
  • Five (5) years of related experience in student services, advising, or disability support services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal regulations, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to disability services.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and accessibility management systems.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Ability to interpret and apply institutional policies in alignment with legal and ethical standards
  • Strong data tracking, reporting, and assessment skills to inform service improvements
  • Experience supporting students with a wide range of disabilities (learning, physical, psychological, and temporary conditions)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
  • Experience delivering training or workshops on accessibility, compliance, or inclusive practices

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally, more than twenty-five (25) pounds.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as a copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.  Indian River State College expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.

Continued employment remains on an “at-will” basis.  Travel to each of the assessments on a monthly basis or as needed.
