Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Program Coordinator for the Office of First Year Experience Programs (FYEP) plays a central role in the development, coordination, and sustainability of comprehensive transition and success initiatives for new students and their supporters. This position is primarily responsible for coordinating the First Year Peer Mentorship Program and supporting key departmental priorities including New Student Orientation and Family & Friends engagement.

Job Requirements & Essential Functions of the Job:

Peer Mentorship Program Leadership:

  • Coordinate the implementation and ongoing development of the FYEP Peer Mentorship Program in collaboration with the Director
  • Lead recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of peer mentors
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop curriculum, learning outcomes, and engagement strategies for the program
  • Assess program effectiveness and implement data-informed improvements

Orientation & Transition Support:

  • Support the planning and execution of all New Student Orientation programs, including sessions for transfer, non-traditional, and other special populations of students.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of Orientation Leaders
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure an organized and inclusive transition experience
  • Assist with advance planning, preparation, and transition processes for summer orientation initiatives

Family & Friends Engagement:

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of Family & Friends Weekend and related engagement initiatives
  • Support communication efforts for families and supporters, including newsletters and targeted outreach
  • Coordinate program logistics and communication materials related to family engagement initiatives

Program Coordination & Collaboration

  • Contribute to the development of a cohesive first-year experience across programs and initiatives
  • Support cross-functional projects, timelines, and program logistics
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of FYEP initiatives and departmental operations

Assessment & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist with assessment efforts, including data collection, program feedback, and reporting
  • Utilize data to inform program enhancements and demonstrate impact

Required Qualifications:

We are seeking candidates who possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues and who have demonstrated a commitment to creating, fostering and sustaining an inclusive environment in and out of the classroom.

Other required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in orientation, student leadership, event planning, or first-year experience programs
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate programs and manage logistics
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

Other preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field
  • Experience supervising student staff or peer leaders
  • Experience with communications strategy, assessment, or family engagement initiatives
  • Familiarity with student transition, retention, and success frameworks.
