Job Summary

The Student Activities Coordinator assists the Director of Student Activities and the Assistant Director of Student Engagement in coordinating, and executing programs and events that promote student engagement, leadership development, and campus involvement. The Coordinator works closely with student organizations, campus departments, and community partners to create a vibrant campus environment that supports student success and enhances the overall student experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Student Activities and Assistant Director of Student Engagement with planning and implementing a comprehensive calendar of student programs, activities, and special events.
  • Coordinate educational, cultural, religious, social, recreational, and leadership programming for students.
  • Assist in advising the Student Government Association (SGA) and recognized student organizations.
  • Help student organizations with event planning, scheduling, and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including facility reservations, vendor arrangements, equipment setup, and event staffing.
  • Assist with planning and executing major University events, including Welcome Week, Homecoming, Dawn Dance, student appreciation programs, cultural celebrations, and other campus traditions.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising student workers and volunteers assigned to Student Activities.
  • Maintain records related to student organizations, event attendance, and program assessments.
  • Ensure student events comply with University policies, safety procedures, and risk management guidelines.
  • Assist with leadership development workshops and training opportunities for student leaders.
  • Provide administrative support to the Office of Student Activities as needed.
  • Attend evening and weekend programs and events as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Activities and the Assistant Director of Student Engagement.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working in higher education, preferably at an HBCU.
  • Experience advising student organizations or coordinating campus events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • One to three years of experience in student activities, event planning, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, or a related field.
