The Student Activities Specialist position is a 10-month, professional staff position located at the Senatobia campus. The hours for the position are mostly afternoon and nights. The Applicant must be available to work Monday-Thursday from 12:00pm - 10:00pm. The Student Activities Specialist will report to the Director of Student Activities The position is responsible for managing intramural sports for students, supervising the operation of various recreational facilities, and supervising recreation activities for students. This role involves planning and executing student events, managing intramural sports and campus facilities, and supervising student workers. It also includes administrative tasks such as facility requests, budget support, and collaboration with campus departments to enhance student engagement and campus life.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience with working with the community, students, youth, etc.
  • Previous experience in intramurals, sports, or competition management
  • Effective communication skills & ability to solve problems and work effectively with diverse individuals
  • Patience and a high level of energy

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor''s degree in Recreation, Sports Management or Administration, Physical Education or related field.
  • Previous experience in intramurals, sports, or competition management
  • Previous athletic experience
  • Experience planning, organizing, and coordinating large-scale activities and events
  • Effective communication skills & ability to solve problems and work effectively with diverse individuals

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plan and implement recreation, student activities, & intramural sports to meet the needs of students.
  • Maintain detailed records of events, attendance, and program evaluations.
  • Contribute to budget planning and inventory management for student programs and equipment.
  • Oversee and facilitate daily operations of campus facilities, including the Student Fitness Center, the indoor gym, and the Ranger Outdoor Complex.
  • Ensure cleanliness, functionality, and readiness of facilities for student use and events.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to ensure seamless execution of student activities.
  • Identify students' needs and preferences by scheduling facilities, procuring and providing appropriate equipment
  • Staff intramural sports with trained referees or other needed staff, and personally supervise events.
  • Prepares facilities request forms and work orders if needed.
  • Assist with creating graphics and content for Student Life social media pages.
  • Create flyers, posters, and update bulletin boards to promote events
  • Publish recreation & intramural sports handbook specifying procedures, rules, and regulations regarding various sports
  • Strategic activity/event scheduling, designing of promotional materials, and social media engagement
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and appeal of all recreation & intramural sports and make changes as needed.
  • Properly store and inventory all equipment and supplies
  • Provide daily open gym opportunities for students in the afternoon and evenings.
  • Provide daily opportunities for students to use the fitness center and game room
  • Monitor usage and student conduct in all facilities and at all events
  • Monitor and manage inventory and equipment needed for events and sports activities.
  • Assist in hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling work study student workers involved in student activities and facility operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work study student performance, hours, and responsibilities.
  • Provide mentorship and support to student workers to encourage leadership and accountability.
  • Document hours worked by students and ensure that timesheets are properly submitted.
  • Ensure that all financial aid regulations regarding work-study are implemented.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Activities and District Dean of Student Services.
