Student Advisor
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Exempt Position; 10 months; Full Time
SALARY: Salary placement will be determined by the NC Salary Teacher Schedule based on license and experience.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Student Advisor will work collaboratively as a member of the student support team to support students in their academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs across tiers, and overall success. The Student Advisor provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 support through relationship building, mentoring, skill development, small group facilitation, and proactive interventions that help students successfully engage in school. The Student Advisor will work closely with the School Social Worker, school-based mental health providers, administrators, teachers, and families to identify barriers to student success, and implement supports. This position is not a clinical or licensed counseling role and does not provide therapy services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor''s degree in a Human Services or related field from an accredited college or university
Preferred:
- Master''s degree in a related field
- Experience working with children, adolescents, and families in school, community, or human services settings
DUTIES:
- Collaborate as a member of the student support team to develop and implement strategies that align with the ASCA National Model and standards for K-8 social, emotional and character development.
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and staff to promote school connectedness and belonging
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports aligned with the school''s MTSS framework
- Facilitate individual student check-ins and mentoring opportunities
- Coordinate and lead small groups focused on social skills, emotional regulation, executive functioning, conflict resolution, coping strategies, and other student needs
- Assist in identifying early warning signs and barriers that may impact student success
- Assist with and complete referrals to partner agencies for additional support and intervention as needed.
- Participate with other team members as a part of the Risk Assessment Protocol
- Conduct suicide screeners and participate fully as a student support team member
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, meetings, and postsecondary plans in accordance with school policies.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and community partners to provide comprehensive support for students.
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Principal.
