Description

Visit California is seeking to hire a Student Assistant Graphic Design Intern who will be responsible for providing design development and content production for projects throughout several Visit California departments. Therefore, the student assistant is expected to have excellent design, organization, written communications skills and a passion for producing high quality materials that provide value and drive high impact within the travel industry. The student assistant must have the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and an interest ofmaking connections between design and content.

Employment

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Prerequisites

Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. To view our current affiliation list please paste the following URL into your browser:

Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting.

Majors/Fields of Study

Graphic Design, Communications, Parks, Recreation or Tourism.

Work Schedule

Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.

Additional Work Schedule

Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).

Compensation

$16.90 to $18.00 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term.
  • Intermediate proficiency of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro) and all Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficiency of digital asset management systems, database storage systems, content management systems, archiving and metadata.
  • Fluency in email and web production software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands of varying complexity and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to take direction (via in-person, creative briefs or digital communications) and complete assignments on-time, as well as an initiative to follow through and complete assignments independently.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Communicate and work well with others in a professional office environment.
  • Experience using Macintosh operating systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic HTML and CSS a plus.
  • Video editing experience a plus.
  • Pre- and post-press print production experience a plus.
  • Good copy-editing skills is a plus.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize and execute design materials for a wide range of print and digital projects of various sizes (large and small).
  • Creation and manipulation of presentation slides via PowerPoint for board meetings, annual conferences, executive speaking engagements and global events.
  • Assist in production of visual content for websites, email newsletters, social media and print materials.
  • Support pre-press production responsibilities for all print materials. Functions may include, but are not limited to mailing list compiling, and direct communication and coordination with print vendor(s).
  • Distribution and coordination of print materials to events and internal department leads.
  • Support in maintaining the digital asset management system including uploading new assets and ensuring all required copyright information is included for incoming assets.
  • Assist with other special projects and tasks assigned by Creative Development Manager.


Physical Requirements

Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
