Position Title: Student Assistant, Marketing & Communications

Department Name: External Affairs

Position Reports To: Deputy Chief of Staff, External Affairs

FLSA STATUS: Hourly

Wage: $19.61 per hour

Benefits: Limited University's benefits

Days & Hours: Variable weekly schedule to be established by supervisor. Flexible schedule may require evening and weekend hours during peak periods.

BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB:

The Marketing & Communications Student Assistant provides day-to-day operational support to GGU's External Affairs team. This role's primary responsibility is fulfilling website update requests submitted by university staff and faculty, ensuring timely and accurate turnaround. The Student Assistant also provides general production and administrative support across marketing, communications, and event-related projects, working closely with the External Affairs Coordinator and the Deputy Chief of Staff for External Affairs. This position is well suited to a current GGU student looking to build hands-on experience in higher education marketing and communications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Process and fulfill website update requests submitted through the department's intake form, prioritizing accuracy and turnaround time

  • Provide general administrative and production support to the External Affairs Coordinator and broader MarCom team

  • Support production of marketing materials, event collateral, and internal communications as assigned

  • Assist with basic content tasks such as proofreading, formatting, and organizing digital assets

  • Help maintain organized digital files and records for the department

  • Assist with maintaining accurate records of constituent communications and engagement activity in university systems

  • Help track and report on communications metrics and engagement outcomes

  • Assist with routine data entry and updates to communications or constituent records as needed

  • Provide light social media or content support as assigned

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Education requirement:

  • Current enrollment in a degree-seeking program at Golden Gate University

  • Years of experience:

  • No prior professional experience required; coursework or interest in marketing, communications, or a related field is a plus

  • Knowledge of:

  • Basic web content management systems, or willingness to learn

  • General office software and file organization practices

  • Direct job-related requirements:

  • Must be enrolled full-time and maintain eligibility under GGU's student employment policies

  • Must be available to work on campus as needed for event support

  • Must have authorization to work in the United States and not require sponsorship, now or in the future

  • Skills and abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through on assigned tasks

  • Reliable and able to manage a consistent weekly schedule around coursework

  • Comfortable learning new tools and systems with guidance

  • Good written communication skills
