Job Description

Summary

The Student Assistant position within the Student Resource Centers plays a critical role in supporting various procedures and services offered by the center. Responsibilities include assisting visitors and callers, contributing to programming efforts, attending staff meetings, supporting research initiatives, helping with advertising efforts, and participating in budgeting tasks. This position provides a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced and supportive environment, helping enhance student success and engagement on campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the daily operations of the Student Resource Centers by providing support for visitors, phone calls, and emails.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of campus programming, events, and workshops aimed at enhancing student success.
  • Collaborate with team members on projects related to advertising, event promotion, and outreach.
  • Participate in staff meetings, offering feedback and suggestions for improvement of center activities and operations.
  • Assist with research efforts related to student success, engagement, and resource availability.
  • Provide support for budget management, tracking expenditures, and helping with financial reporting as needed.
  • Foster a supportive and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and visitors to the Resource Centers.

  • Interview Required: yes, applicants must attend an interview to be considered for this position, as well as have a background check to make sure they are in good academic standing.
  • Training Provided: yes, comprehensive training will be provided for all new staff.
  • Work with People: applicants should be comfortable working with students, faculty, and staff with differing backgrounds and experiences.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$15.25 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Shift

Average number of hours per week: 10. Shifts occur between:

  • 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday
  • 8 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Friday

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Administrative experience and/or working in an office setting.
  • Experience in event programming and/or planning and executing events.
  • Customer service experience and working with a wide range of individuals.
  • Experience working with people at various levels within an organization, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Desire to learn and assist others in accessing resources to promote student success and campus engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills.
