We are seeking applicants for the position of Student Assistant in Special Collections at the Kelvin Smith Library and, occasionally, at the KSL Collections Annex located in the Cedar Startup Incubator building at 11000 Cedar Avenue.
Rate and hours: $13.81 per hour.
We are looking for a student who can work 6-8 hours per week, Monday-Friday, between 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. for Fall semester 2026, preferably continuing to Spring 2027.
Responsibilities:
Support processing projects in the department, including accurate list making, data entry, quality assurance/proofreading, and physical organization of Special Collections material.
Support outreach activities in the department, including assisting in reading room preparations and content creation, advancing collections discovery and use.
Support continuous improvement by sharing observations and feedback.
Qualifications:
Possesses strong interpersonal skills and demonstrates enthusiasm for supporting departmental work involving rare book and manuscript materials.
Ability to carefully and consistently gather information from collection materials.
Ability to complete accurate data entry.
Dexterity in handling fragile materials.
Ability to safely lift a 35-pound box, to bend and twist, removing and returning bound volumes and archival boxes to shelving units from ground level to 12 feet in height using library step stools, to push a filled, three-shelf library cart to and from work areas on three levels of the library, and tolerance for dust in the workplace
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
