Job Summary
The Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum is seeking a motivated and dependable Student Assistant to support daily operations. This position is limited to students who are Federal Work-Study eligible. Responsibilities include engaging with museum visitors, assisting with exhibits, helping at events, and providing excellent customer service in the gift shop.
Essential Job Functions
What You'll Do - Position Responsibilities
Greet visitors, sell tickets, and share museum information
Operate the gift shop, including cash register operations and cash handling
Prepare and close daily sales deposits
Assist with museum tours and orientations
Represent the museum at events and support event coordination
Monitor exhibits for environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, pests)
Lightly clean and maintain museum spaces (gift shop, lecture hall, buildings, restrooms)
Assist with grounds upkeep and custodial duties as needed
Report issues to the Director or the appropriate LU department
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Must be a current Lamar University student
Must be Federal Work-Study eligible (as determined by Financial Aid)
Dependable, prompt, and able to follow directions
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and independently
Ability to stand for extended periods, indoors and outdoors
Must be able to lift and move 30+ pounds (tables, chairs, supplies)
May be exposed to variable weather during events or groundskeeping
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with customer service, cash handling, or gift shop operations
Experience using a cash register
