Position Summary

The Center for Youth Futures (CYF) works in partnership with Breakthrough Cincinnati (BTC). As a pioneer in education reform, BTC is more than an organization. It is a nationwide movement, tackling the achievement and opportunity gap with a groundbreaking approach. Through our summer and school-year programs at 25 sites across the country, BTC increases academic opportunity for highly motivated, underserved middle- and high school students, putting them on the path to college.

Breakthrough Cincinnati has been serving the local community for over 30 years, and currently has two sites to meet greater needs:

1. Cincinnati Country Day School

2. University of Cincinnati

The Program Recruitment Specialist is a student worker responsible for supporting the recruitment and enrollment of students from communities that have been historically underrepresented in higher education. The Specialist will conduct outreach to local schools, community organizations, families, and youth-serving agencies to increase awareness of and participation in a youth academic program that offers summer and school year enrichment.

The Program Recruitment Specialist will serve as a positive and welcoming representative of the program, helping prospective students and families understand available opportunities and navigate the enrollment process.

Primary Duties

• Conduct outreach to local schools, community organizations, youth-serving agencies, and families to promote the summer academic enrichment program.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with school counselors, educators, community leaders, and organizations.
• Support school visits, information sessions, recruitment events, presentations, and community outreach activities.
• Communicate program benefits, eligibility requirements, schedules, and enrollment information to students, families, schools, and community partners.
• Identify and connect with prospective students and their family members from underrepresented communities who may benefit from academic enrichment, college preparation, and youth development opportunities.
• Assist prospective students and families with completing application materials and navigating the registration process through orientation and enrollment.
• Maintain accurate records of recruitment contacts, prospective students, enrollment progress, and outreach activities.
• Enter and update participant information in designated databases or tracking systems while maintaining confidentiality.
• Collaborate with program staff to identify recruitment opportunities and address barriers that may prevent students from participating.
• Perform additional program-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Enrolled at a post-secondary institution or a secondary school.
• Enrolled at least part-time (one or more credit hours if at a post-secondary institution), except for summer term, or will be a registered student during the next academic term.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• "Enrollment" shall include:
• The period between two successive terms for which the student is enrolled.
• The one "off" term in each academic year in which the student is not enrolled. Student employee status may be retained for one additional term following either graduation or withdrawal from enrollment.

Preferred Candidate Attributes

• Have reliable transportation.
• Be culturally responsive, approachable, and respectful when working with students and families.
• Reliable, professional, and comfortable representing the program in school and community settings.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills appropriate for various audiences.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and data entry.
• Previous experience with youth programs, community outreach, recruitment, education, or customer service is preferred but not required.
• Have experience working with diverse student populations or community organizations.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.

Work Schedule

Position: Student Worker - Program Recruitment Specialist

Hours: 20 hours per week | Hybrid. 40% in office.

Anticipated Start Date: November

Employment Type: Part-Time Student Employment (School Year, with option for Summer)

Schedule: Flexible and coordinated around the student's academic schedule.

• Traditional school hours 8-3 pm.
• Some evening or weekend hours may be required for recruitment events and community outreach activities.
• Local travel to schools and community organizations may be required (mileage reimbursement provided).
