    The opportunity

    PROGRAM SUMMARY:

    Breakthrough Manchester College-Bound at SNHU (BTM-CB) is a tuition-free program guided by a mission to give continued support in academic growth, educational enrichment, college-readiness, and essential skill-building to highly motivated, under-resourced high school students while inspiring the next generation of well-rounded leaders and educators.

    BTM-CB continues the college-access pipeline for students who entered the program as rising 7th graders through Breakthrough Manchester at the Derryfield School. BTM-CB seeks to complete its mission through dedicated advising and support of students, college access and success curriculum on eight College-Bound Saturdays, and a college success culture and community.

    POSITION DETAILS:

    • This is a part-time position of up to 10 hours per week (typically 2-4 hours)
    • This includes working 1 Saturday per month (on campus) from roughly 9:30am-3:30pm.
    • Hours are flexible and most work can be completed remotely.
    • The main office and location is SNHU, 2500 North River Road, Manchester, NH

    OVERVIEW OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Check the progress of 4-6 high school student advisees weekly through virtual progress reports and respond with academic suggestions and feedback
    • Update supervisor regularly and attend monthly one-on-one check-in meetings
    • Meet with students and attend half-day workshops at least 8 Saturdays per school year
    • Be available to respond to students’ questions/concerns within 48 hours
    • Participate in advisor professional learning community meetings and professional development sessions
    • Plan and lead one-to-two Saturday workshops (with admin support) per semester for the students
    • Submit regular progress self-reflections and reflections on advisee progress

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Hard-working and well-organized
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills
    • Tech-savvy, including competence in Microsoft Suite
    • Desire to learn and grow alongside an incredible population of under-resourced students
    • Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, or teaching desired but not required

    LEARNING OUTCOMES:

    As noted in the program summary, Breakthrough has a dual mission of not just supporting high school students but also supporting college students in their own growth and development. In the role, advisors will learn to:

    • Develop and facilitate engaging sessions based on proven pedagogy as a confident public speaker
    • Communicate effectively to support the growth of young people while collaborating on a team
    • Cultivate and apply a strong understanding of equity and belonging in education and beyond
    • Solve complex problems through critical-thinking, networking, and resource management

    COMPENSATION:

    • This is a paid position of $13.50/hr
    • Advisors are responsible for tracking, logging, and submitting their time

    Compensation

    The hourly pay range for this position is $13.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
