Student Climate Specialist
ADULT LEARNING CENTER
4-DAYS A WEEK/4.75-HOURS A DAY, 38-WEEKS
$30.00 PER HOUR
Position Overview
The Student Climate Specialist helps create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for adult learners. This role centers on building positive relationships, guiding students in making constructive choices, and fostering a sense of community throughout the building. The specialist works collaboratively with staff, administrators, and security personnel to promote a positive school climate where all students feel respected, engaged, and safe.
Key Responsibilities
1. Positive School Climate & Student Support
- Maintain a warm, consistent presence in hallways, common areas, and high-traffic spaces to promote a calm and supportive atmosphere.
- Engage with students throughout the day to build rapport, encourage participation, and contribute to a respectful school culture.
- Offer guidance and redirection when needed, using positive communication strategies to help students stay focused and successful in the program.
- Support transitions between classes and assist students with questions, concerns, or resource needs.
- Partner with security staff in a collaborative, student-centered way to ensure smooth daily operations and a welcoming environment for all.
2. Restorative Practices & Community Building
- Foster strong relationships with students by using restorative and strengths-based approaches.
- Help students navigate conflicts by facilitating restorative conversations, mediations, and reflective dialogues that encourage understanding and accountability.
- Reinforce skills such as respectful communication, empathy, problem-solving, and emotional regulation.
- Support teachers and staff in implementing restorative routines, such as classroom circles or community-building activities.
- Encourage positive student behavior through consistency, encouragement, and proactive engagement.
Qualifications
- Experience working with diverse adult populations, preferably in an educational or community-based setting.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to respond calmly, thoughtfully, and respectfully in a variety of situations.
- Knowledge of restorative practices or willingness to be trained.
- Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to move throughout the building and remain active for extended periods.
- Comfort working in a dynamic environment that requires flexibility, creativity, and consistent interaction with students and staff.
